What is
SENSORY INTEGRATION/
SENSORY PROCESSING ?
“Sensory Processing” refers to the way the nervous system receives messages from the senses and turns them into appropriate motor and behavioral responses. Everything from riding a bicycle to walking up stairs and chewing your lunch requires accurate processing of sensation.
“Sensory Processing Disorder” ( SPD) exists when sensory signals are either not detected or don’t get organized into appropriate responses
A person with SPD may exhibit:
-
Motor clumsiness/ tripping and falling easily
-
Avoidance of certain textures, sounds or movements like swings or rolling toys

Hyperactivity or sluggishness
-
Anxiety or behavioral problems

Many more symptoms which appear like under or over -reaction to things in the environment
